A Coffee Break for curious listeners

Step into the music you remember. Find something you missed.

A song title can bring back a summer, a first car, a college apartment, or a long drive with the radio turned up. MusicAtlas gives you a place to follow that connection, then keep exploring.

This addition to GlobalRPh’s Coffee Break series is for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, students, other professionals, and casual users who enjoy music during their downtime. Browse during a quiet break, compare favorites with a friend, or put together a shortlist for an evening of listening.

Start with a familiar artist. Look up a meaningful year. Try a quiz. With a database this substantial, one remembered song can lead to an entire afternoon of rediscovery.

For the interests you bring to life beyond your professional role. Pick a year, an artist, or a quiz and enjoy the break.

A curated soundtrack for each year

Each year contains 150 selected songs, aiming to include many of the top, most memorable, and enduring songs associated with that year, including lasting all-time favorites. These lists are not a complete catalog of everything released each year, and they are not an official ranking from 1 to 150.

The annual collection covers 1960-2025, with 9,900 annual entries. Song pages distinguish the listening-list year from available release-date information. Use the selections as an invitation to revisit favorites and discover music you may have overlooked.

Spend time with a favorite artist

169 Artist Essentials collections bring together selected songs from individual performers and groups. Revisit familiar names or use a shorter curated list to get to know someone you have only heard in passing.

Explore Artist Essentials >

Read the available background

Look for songwriting inspiration, recording history, artist context, and source notes. Entries identify the type and review status of the information, so a documented songwriting account is distinguishable from general background.

Build a shortlist for later

Save songs as you browse, then export your shortlist for a future listening session. No account is needed. Your saved list belongs to that browser, so export favorites you want to keep before clearing its cookies.

Choose a sound and stay awhile

From Motown favorites to the concert hall

Focused collections give you a ready-made place to start. Explore familiar favorites, move beyond an artist’s best-known single, or try a style you have been meaning to hear more of.

These are curated listening collections. Classical entries represent whole works or cycles, rather than a claim about one definitive performance.

Put your music knowledge to the test

You know the title. Can you name the artist?

Choose one of 50 artist quizzes, each with 25 multiple-choice questions. Read the song title, select from four performers, and review your score and answers when you finish.

Try a set on your own or compare scores with a friend. The questions offer another route back into the catalog: a title you almost remembered may be the next song you want to explore.

A familiar song can open a new direction.

Move from a song to its artist, from an artist to a collection, or from a favorite decade to a different musical style. Read the background that is available and follow the connections that interest you.

If you would rather be surprised, open Daily Discovery for a small selection from the catalog, then shuffle for another mix. You can also browse by genre and mood when you know the kind of music you want to find.

MusicAtlas leaves room for both approaches: the comfort of an old favorite and the pleasure of finding something new.
