Background
Fixed Combination Medications
Overview
- As many as 40 to 50% of patients require more than one eye drop to control intraocular pressure.
- Combinations are chosen for their synergy. The combinations are more effective than either component alone.
- Combinations of timolol and a prostaglandin analog have not resulted in satisfactory reductions in the IOP.
- Fixed combinations are more cost effective and reduce exposure to preservatives compared to two separate drops.
