ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961 around brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine. They signed with Capitol and released Surfin' Safari in 1962. The early guitar-and-harmony sound developed into increasingly detailed studio arrangements as Brian concentrated on writing and production. Pet Sounds combined elaborate backing tracks with the group's vocals, while subsequent albums brought different instrumental settings and member contributions. Their group recordings remain separate from the members' solo catalogs.

About this artist collection

Uses the existing group ID and full The Beach Boys credit. Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson and other member solo records are separate. Original Capitol-era performances are selected where applicable; early alternate sessions, modern stereo reconstructions and concert renditions are not substituted.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
