Chicago Transit Authority - official original album program
The band archive identifies the original 1969 album and its track program. Only original studio recordings are selected; modern remixes, bonus material, concert versions and subsequent rerecordings are excluded. The album day is not promoted to an earlier single day. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
A Chicago Story - early band name and original album/single relationship
The band history explicitly identifies Chicago Transit Authority as the original name of the same group, its April 1969 debut and the shortening of the name to Chicago. Members distinguish long original album cuts from edited early singles. Session dates and later retrospective dates are not used as first release. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
Annual version match under review
The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.
The actual retained 1971 title does not identify the full original 1969 album performance versus an edited single/anthology presentation. The band discusses edited early singles, and the licensed anthology separately labels a Greatest Hits Edit. The original full album selection retains the actual candidate provisionally.

Chicago - licensed anthology edition labels
The public licensed program explicitly labels Beginnings Greatest Hits Edit, Make Me Smile New Edit and Will You Still Love Me? Single Edit. Hard to Say I'm Sorry / Get Away is a combined track. About Chicago
Chicago formed in its namesake city in 1967 with the aim of combining a rock rhythm section and a prominent horn section. The musicians brought backgrounds in jazz, R&B and other styles to that approach. Their first album, Chicago Transit Authority, appeared in 1969, featuring several songwriters and singers within the same ensemble. Long arrangements and instrumental passages were part of its early identity, alongside more compact songs that could reach radio audiences.
