ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Chicago

Chicago formed in its namesake city in 1967 with the aim of combining a rock rhythm section and a prominent horn section. The musicians brought backgrounds in jazz, R&B and other styles to that approach. Their first album, Chicago Transit Authority, appeared in 1969, featuring several songwriters and singers within the same ensemble. Long arrangements and instrumental passages were part of its early identity, alongside more compact songs that could reach radio audiences.

About this artist collection

Uses the retained Chicago band identity. The original Chicago Transit Authority credit is explicitly documented as the same band; member solo records remain separate. Original album performances are not silently joined to shortened singles, later remixes or the 1986 remake of 25 or 6 to 4.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
