Annual version match under review

The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.

The source distinguishes the original seven-inch single from an extended twelve-inch mix. The retained 1979 annual row does not specify which presentation it means, so the seven-inch selection retains that real annual candidate provisionally.

ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Wings

Wings began in 1971 around Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney and Denny Laine. The group developed its own touring and studio life through a changing lineup, with Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English joining the core trio for Venus and Mars. At the Speed of Sound gave every band member a lead-vocal turn, making the ensemble's range especially clear. Their catalog combines concise singles, connected album passages, guitar-led performances and carefully layered vocal arrangements.
