Release evidence and recording details

The original short studio single was publicly released in 1981, as documented by the official artist chronology. The later Rio album uses a different 1982 studio presentation; that album date does not replace this single year.

Duran Duran - official 1981 single and debut chronology
The artist chronology identifies the original 1981 Planet Earth and Careless Memories singles, the 1981 debut album, and the separate November 1981 My Own Way single. My Own Way is not given the 1982 year of the later Rio album recording. Exact days are unnecessary for the selected year precision. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
My Own Way - original single versus Rio album recording
The licensed original single program distinguishes My Own Way Single Version from Night Version and later presentations. The official 1981 chronology establishes the original single year; its selected short studio single is different from the longer 1982 Rio album recording. Later bonus dates are not adopted. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
Rio - licensed original studio program
The licensed Rio collector program separates the original UK album sequence from US Album Remixes, Night Versions, the original My Own Way 7-inch version and the early acoustic Blue Silver version of The Chauffeur. Only original 1982 album tracks use the 1982 album year. Bonus dates inherited from the parent album are not accepted as first-release dates. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
Annual version match under review
The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.
The selected 1981 short original single and the later 1982 Rio studio recording are distinct. Although the retained year points to the original single cycle, the actual row does not explicitly identify the recording version. The real retained candidate stays provisional and is excluded from Beyond until that presentation is resolved.
