Bob Marley & The Wailers / RECOMMENDED SELECTION 9

Original 1977 Exodus studio recording

Release evidence and recording details

First released: 1977 (year verified)

The selected Exodus recording was released in 1977. The earlier One Love on The Wailing Wailers is a separate recording documented in 1965; neither that earlier year nor the 1984 compilation year replaces this recording's date.

Role in this collection: Group artist

Original album: Exodus

Bob Marley official catalog: Exodus (1977)
Official 1977 Island album and track list establish the selected original studio recordings of Three Little Birds, Jamming, One Love/People Get Ready and Exodus; later remasters are distinguished. | Reviewed 2026-10-17

Bob Marley official catalog: The Wailing Wailers (1965)
The Studio One album released in 1965 includes the earlier One Love recording. This establishes the earlier recorded version separately from the selected 1977 Exodus remake; session years are not release dates. | Reviewed 2026-10-17

Annual version match under review

The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.

The retained 1984 annual entry gives no mix or edition identifier. The selected Exodus recording is documented in 1977, while One Love also has an earlier Studio One recording and later Legend-era issues. The annual year alone cannot identify the selected version, so the proposed link remains provisional.

ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Bob Marley & The Wailers

The Wailers' 1973 album Burnin' belongs to the roots-reggae partnership of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Natty Dread followed in 1974 under the credit Bob Marley & The Wailers, after Tosh and Bunny Wailer had left to pursue separate careers. That album introduced the I Threes vocal team of Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. These changes matter when following the group's recordings: related musicians and similar song titles do not make different lineups or solo releases interchangeable.
