ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Bob Marley & The Wailers

The Wailers' 1973 album Burnin' belongs to the roots-reggae partnership of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Natty Dread followed in 1974 under the credit Bob Marley & The Wailers, after Tosh and Bunny Wailer had left to pursue separate careers. That album introduced the I Threes vocal team of Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. These changes matter when following the group's recordings: related musicians and similar song titles do not make different lineups or solo releases interchangeable.

About this artist collection

The collection follows the group's Island-era continuity while retaining the actual release-era credits: The Wailers on the selected 1973 albums, and Bob Marley & The Wailers on the later albums. Peter Tosh's and Bunny Wailer's solo catalogs are separate. The acoustic Redemption Song is retained under its Uprising album artist credit; that does not imply a full-band performance.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
