ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Supremes

The Supremes developed from the Primettes and signed with Motown in 1961. The trio of Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard became closely associated with songs written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland, including Where Did Our Love Go, Baby Love and You Can't Hurry Love. Their coordinated presentation complemented the records' pop appeal. The group was later billed as Diana Ross and the Supremes. After Ross left for a solo career, Jean Terrell joined, and subsequent lineups extended the group's work into the 1970s.

About this artist collection

The Supremes group identity and existing biography are preserved. Diana Ross & The Supremes is a documented historical group credit, not a merger with Diana Ross solo work. The Temptations remain separately credited on the one joint recording.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
