ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Linda Ronstadt

Linda Ronstadt helped connect country music with the rock audience of the 1970s. Working with producer Peter Asher, she built a repertoire that drew on early rock and roll, soul and country songwriting, interpreting material associated with Roy Orbison, the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. Her later recordings extended that approach to orchestral standards and Mexican music she had heard while growing up in Tucson. Albums including What's New and Canciones de Mi Padre show how widely her interest in interpreting songs could travel.

About this artist collection

The solo Linda Ronstadt identity is retained. Don't Know Much explicitly credits Aaron Neville, and What's New? credits the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Stone Poneys recordings, Trio performances, other artists' versions and later live releases are not silently treated as solo Ronstadt recordings.

First released means the earliest documented official public release of the selected recording. A year-only date does not assert a month or day. Later singles, chart years, compilations, remasters and reissues do not replace that date.
