About Floyd Cramer
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Floyd Cramer brought a recognizable piano style to Nashville recording sessions and to his own instrumental records. Raised in Arkansas, he learned by ear and worked on the Louisiana Hayride before settling in Nashville. His slip-note approach moved from a neighboring note into the melody, creating a vocal-like inflection. Last Date displayed that sound prominently. Alongside his studio work, Cramer recorded extensively for RCA and toured with guitarist Chet Atkins and saxophonist Boots Randolph.
