About Shai
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Shai formed at Howard University in Washington, D.C., bringing Carl Martin, Darnell Van Rensalier, Marc Gay and Garfield Bright into an R&B vocal quartet. The singers drew on church harmony, doo-wop and unaccompanied vocal traditions. Their debut album If I Ever Fall in Love appeared in 1992 through Gasoline Alley, with Comforter and Baby I'm Yours also becoming familiar recordings. Right Back at Cha collected remixes and live performances before the next studio album, Blackface.
