About The Crusaders
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
The Crusaders grew from a Houston ensemble including Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper and Wayne Henderson. After moving to Los Angeles, they recorded as the Jazz Crusaders for Pacific Jazz. Their music combined hard bop with R&B and soul, later shortening the name as the repertoire expanded toward funk and crossover recordings.
