ARTIST BACKGROUND

About MC Hammer

Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.

MC Hammer is the Oakland rapper and dancer Stanley Kirk Burrell. After recording independently, he reached Capitol Records with Let's Get It Started in 1988. Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em followed in 1990, including 'U Can't Touch This,' 'Have You Seen Her' and 'Pray.' His records, dance routines and visual style connected rap with a broad pop audience. Too Legit to Quit extended that run in 1991, with later albums including The Funky Headhunter and Inside Out.

Universal Music France - MC Hammer biography
Read the French label body for Stanley Kirk Burrell/Oakland, rap and dance, independent recording, Capitol/Let's Get It Started in 1988, the named 1990 singles and album, Too Legit to Quit in 1991 and later albums. Omit disputed initial Feel My Power release year, inconsistent sales/chart totals, loose first-success superlatives, private/religious narrative and album-quality judgments. | Retrieved 2026-10-19

Universal Attractions Agency - MC Hammer biography
Read the representative biography for Oakland identity, rap/dance/pop presentation and visual style. Do not carry its incorrect 1987 Let's Get It Started or 1993 Too Legit to Quit dates; the label biography supports the 1988 and 1991 years used. Also omit changing sales, award, entrepreneurship and current-position totals. | Retrieved 2026-10-19
