Inspiration and background
Researched recording background
Disco Duck grew from Rick Dees's work as a Memphis radio presenter and club entertainer. He described devising a disco parody after hearing a duck imitation and remembering Jackie Lee's The Duck. First recorded for Estelle Axton's Fretone label, the novelty single later reached a wider audience through RSO distribution under the Cast of Idiots credit. Retained list context: Disco Duck by Rick Dees & His Cast of Idiots appears at number 97 in the reviewed U.S. year-end table for 1976. No reliable song-specific account of its inspiration was established in this review.
Evidence scope: Sourced recording or credited-performer context. Exact audio identity and private songwriting motivation are not inferred.
