About Cat Stevens
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Cat Stevens moved from the arranged pop of Matthew & Son toward the intimate acoustic sound of Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat. Producer Paul Samwell-Smith and guitarist Alun Davies helped develop that approach. His repertoire includes Wild World, Father and Son and Peace Train, alongside songs recorded by other performers, such as The First Cut Is the Deepest. He later resumed secular recording as Yusuf, following a long period focused on religious music.
