Inspiration and background
Documented songwriting inspiration
Eilish told Song Exploder that an upsetting dream about her death prompted the first verse. She and FINNEAS left the song unfinished for months, then made the chorus about the support they give each other as siblings. FINNEAS shaped the pulsing piano with compression triggered by a muted drum track, linking the intimate subject to the recording's ebbing sound.
Evidence scope: Direct songwriter accounts in episode 197 explain the dream, the pause in writing, the sibling-support chorus and the piano production.
