Inspiration and background
Documented songwriting inspiration
Keith Crouch and Kipper Jones wrote the song as a mid-tempo expression of romantic interest. Jones initially imagined another singer performing it, before Atlantic encouraged them to work with Brandy. Her debut recording established an R&B sound with hip-hop influence.
