About Black Sabbath
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham from the blues-oriented group Earth, bringing Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward together. The early albums Black Sabbath and Paranoid established a heavy, riff-centered sound, with contrasting tempos and extended instrumental passages. Master of Reality and Vol. 4 developed that approach alongside quieter pieces. Subsequent lineups continued under Iommi's direction, including the period that produced Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, distinct from Osbourne's separate solo career.
