About Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes developed from Philadelphia vocal-group traditions and continued through several changes of singers. Their Philadelphia International recordings with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff featured Teddy Pendergrass's baritone, combining orchestral ballads with extended dance tracks. If You Don't Know Me by Now, The Love I Lost and Wake Up Everybody belong to that period. The group continued recording after Pendergrass left to establish a separate solo career.
