Crying
Roy Orbison
1961
Annual listening-list association, not an original-release-date field. Original release year reconciled with reviewed recording-specific Artist Essentials evidence in v3.6.
Release: 1961
Release: 1961Source checked
V3.6 reconciles the original release year with the reviewed Artist Essentials entry for this exact retained recording ID. Year precision is used; an album-first release is not silently replaced by a later single, reissue or annual-list year. Year precision reflects the reviewed original release program. Reissues, remasters, later single campaigns and annual-list placement do not reset the original recording year.
The large badge identifies this listening list, not a newly issued recording. Later reissues and renewed chart popularity do not replace an original release date. How years are assigned.
Owner-supplied release annotations
Reported dates in 1961.html. Not independently established; neighboring dates can reflect album/single or regional differences.
The Monument Singles Collection - licensed recording program
The licensed original-single program supplies track identities and individual recording-year metadata for the selected Monument sides. The anthology itself is dated 2011. Album-inherited 1962 for Love Hurts is overridden by the explicit 1961 estate single history; incompatible 1989/2011 dates on other old tracks are not used.
The Monument Singles Collection - official original-master scope
The estate release announcement identifies the anthology as the original Monument mono single mixes from 1959-1966. It lists the original A and B sides and explicitly dates the original Oh, Pretty Woman single to 1964. The later concert DVD is separate.
King of Hearts - official original release history
The estate announcement dates the original King of Hearts release to 1992 and distinguishes the 2022 remaster. It explicitly dates the original Crying to 1961. Its statement that I Drove All Night first appeared in 1992 conflicts with licensed 1991 track metadata; that candidate is deferred.
