V3.6 reconciles the original release year with the reviewed Artist Essentials entry for this exact retained recording ID. Year precision is used; an album-first release is not silently replaced by a later single, reissue or annual-list year. Original 1991 studio recording. Year precision retains the original release cycle without substituting a later single, live performance, remaster or compilation date.
The large badge identifies this listening list, not a newly issued recording. Later reissues and renewed chart popularity do not replace an original release date. How years are assigned.
Genesis - original studio album history and programs
Label distinguishes the original albums and their years from the 2024 reissue campaign. Used for the 1976 A Trick of the Tail, 1978 trio album, 1981 Abacab, 1983 Genesis and 1991 We Can't Dance original programs. Later Nick Davis mixes are not assigned as first releases.
Turn It On Again - recording associations and later editions
The label associates selected hits with their original album years, but explicitly labels The Carpet Crawlers 1999 and lists a shorter Mama program. Those versions do not establish the first release of the original album recordings.
About Genesis
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
Genesis formed in England in 1967 around school friends Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford. Phil Collins and Steve Hackett joined the early album lineup, whose long arrangements combined instrumental detail with theatrical storytelling. After Gabriel left in 1975, Collins became lead singer. The later Banks, Collins and Rutherford trio developed a more direct pop sound while retaining extended album pieces. Their group catalog spans both approaches, alongside the separate solo careers pursued by its members.
