Inspiration and background
Documented songwriting inspiration
Ed Cobb's composition reached Soft Cell through the northern soul scene. Marc Almond and David Ball replaced the earlier soul setting with sparse electronics, working with producer Mike Thorne. The extended single also joins the song to Where Did Our Love Go; that medley differs from the short single.
