About The Kinks
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
The Kinks formed in Muswell Hill, north London, around brothers Ray and Dave Davies. Their early R&B and rock-and-roll approach produced the forceful guitar sound of You Really Got Me. Ray's writing developed into detailed observations of English life, heard in Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Waterloo Sunset and The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society. Later work moved through concept albums and a harder rock sound suited to larger stages. The brothers' individual recording careers are separate from the band's catalog.
