About M People
Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.
M People combined house rhythms with the soul vocals of Heather Small. The group formed around Small, DJ Mike Pickering and acid-jazz musician Paul Heard in 1990. Pickering's background included Manchester's Hacienda and the band Quando Quango. Northern Soul introduced How Can I Love You More? and Colour My Life, while Elegant Slumming and Bizarre Fruit developed the group's crossover between club music and pop. Moving On Up became a signature of that approach.
