Encouragement from Paul Overstreet led him to submit songs professionally, and a move to Nashville brought a publishing deal with Polygram. After a period with Mercury, he recorded for Lyric Street, releasing the self-titled album containing 99.9% Sure (I've Never Been Here Before).
