ARTIST BACKGROUND

About Brand Nubian

Song-specific inspiration or recording background is not established for this entry. This sourced artist profile provides career context.

Brand Nubian's early records combined socially engaged rapping with jazz-inflected samples and rhythmic production. Grand Puba, Sadat X and Lord Jamar supplied the voices on the debut album One for All, whose repertoire included Slow Down, Wake Up and All for One. After Grand Puba began a solo career, Jamar and Sadat X continued under the group name. In God We Trust followed in 1993, developing a tougher setting for their political and relationship-centered writing.
