About Candi Staton
Candi Staton's recordings connect Southern soul, gospel and dance music. Her work with producer Rick Hall at FAME in Muscle Shoals included I'm Just a Prisoner and interpretations of Stand by Your Man and In the Ghetto. Young Hearts Run Free brought her voice into disco, while dance remixes introduced You Got the Love to further audiences. Later albums with producer Mark Nevers, including His Hands, Who's Hurting Now and Unstoppable, returned to soul and blues while extending her repertoire.
