About Al Green
Al Green developed a distinctive soul style in Memphis through his partnership with producer Willie Mitchell. His singing moved between restrained phrasing and an expressive gospel-derived intensity, supported by horns, organ and carefully shaped rhythms. Let's Stay Together, I'm Still in Love with You and Take Me to the River became central recordings in his 1970s repertoire. His career later moved between gospel and secular music, extending the connection between those traditions that had already shaped his early work.
