About The Bar-Kays
The Bar-Kays developed in Memphis as young musicians influenced by the Mar-Keys and Booker T. & the MG's. They became both a recording act and a studio band for Stax, with Soul Finger establishing their own identity. Otis Redding also chose them as his backing band. Across later lineups, the group moved from instrumental soul toward dance-oriented funk, showing how a Memphis ensemble could adapt its sound while maintaining a connection to the city's rhythm and blues tradition.
