About Mos Def
Mos Def, later known as Yasiin Bey, emerged from Brooklyn's hip-hop community and formed Black Star with Talib Kweli. Their work connected wordplay and social commentary with jazz-influenced rhythms, with the debut album appearing through Rawkus. After the partners developed separate careers, including Bey's work as an actor, they returned to Black Star. This collaborative history forms one part of the artist's broader recording and performance career.
