About Gang Starr
Gang Starr's central partnership joined rapper Guru with DJ Premier, whose cutting and jazz-based production framed Guru's measured delivery. Their work together began with No More Mr. Nice Guy in 1989 and developed through Step in the Arena, Daily Operation and Hard to Earn. Mass Appeal became part of this repertoire. Later group albums sat alongside Guru's Jazzmatazz projects and Premier's separate production work for other rappers.
