About The Kingston Trio
The Kingston Trio grew from a Palo Alto partnership among Dave Guard, Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds. Guitars, banjo and close vocal harmonies framed a repertoire drawn from folk traditions and other popular songs. Performances at San Francisco's Purple Onion helped them develop both musical arrangements and stage banter before recording for Capitol. Their debut included Tom Dooley, Scotch and Soda and Hard, Ain't It Hard, bringing that club-tested style to a much wider audience.
