About Wilson Pickett
Wilson Pickett brought a gospel-trained, forceful voice into 1960s soul. After singing in the Violinaires and the Falcons in Detroit, he developed an Atlantic solo career through sessions at Stax in Memphis and at Muscle Shoals. In the Midnight Hour, 634-5789 and Mustang Sally belong to that period. Work with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff later extended his recordings into Philadelphia soul, including Engine Number 9.
