About Chumbawamba
Chumbawamba developed in the early 1980s within Britain's independent punk scene, combining collective performance with outspoken political material. The group issued recordings through its own Agit-Prop label before exploring unaccompanied folk singing on English Rebel Songs. Slap! and Shhh incorporated dance rhythms, while Anarchy continued the combination of pop hooks and social commentary. The 1997 album Tubthumper and its single Tubthumping introduced this already established band to a much larger international audience.
