About Al Martino
Al Martino developed as an Italian-American pop singer after growing up in Philadelphia, where his family worked in masonry. Singers such as Al Jolson and Perry Como helped encourage his interest in performing. His recording career included Here in My Heart, I Love You Because and Spanish Eyes, while acting introduced him to another audience as Johnny Fontane in The Godfather. That combination of popular ballads and screen performance remained central to his public identity.
