About Patti Smith Group
The Patti Smith Group grew from Smith's poetry performances with guitarist Lenny Kaye into a band associated with New York's CBGB scene. Ivan Kral and Jay Dee Daugherty helped shape the early group. Its Arista period moved through Horses, Radio Ethiopia, Easter and Wave, with different producers on each album. Easter included Because the Night, co-written by Smith and Bruce Springsteen. This group credit is retained separately from the details of Smith's later solo and literary work.
