About Joe South
Joe South combined songwriting and performing with substantial work as a studio guitarist. His career developed in Atlanta and Nashville, including sessions for Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan. He wrote and produced material for the Tams and Billy Joe Royal, while Games People Play and Walk a Mile in My Shoes became part of his own recording catalog. His songs also circulated widely through other singers, with Lynn Anderson's version of Rose Garden providing a particularly familiar example.
