About Lou Reed
Lou Reed moved from the Velvet Underground into a solo catalog that approached rock songwriting through sharply drawn characters, urban settings and contrasting musical forms. Transformer became a central early solo release in 1972. Later albums included The Blue Mask and New York. Reed also resumed work with former Velvet Underground collaborator John Cale on Songs for Drella, their album about Andy Warhol. Group recordings, solo studio releases and later concert performances belong to separate parts of that history.
