The Sisters of Mercy formed in Leeds around Andrew Eldritch and Gary Marx. Their sound combined a deep lead vocal, guitar textures and the drum machine known as Doktor Avalanche. Albums including First and Last and Always, Floodland and Vision Thing connected post-punk with dance rhythms and heavier rock arrangements through changing lineups.
