About Percy Sledge
Percy Sledge developed as a singer around Leighton and Sheffield, Alabama, performing with the Esquires before recording with producers Quin Ivy and Marlin Greene. When a Man Loves a Woman introduced his expressive delivery to a broad audience. Further recordings included Warm and Tender Love, It Tears Me Up and Take Time to Know Her. His work with Muscle Shoals-area songwriters and musicians became part of Southern soul's enduring catalog of emotionally direct ballads.
