About George Jones
George Jones developed his country singing through East Texas radio and early recordings for Starday. His formative influences included Hank Williams, Roy Acuff and Lefty Frizzell. Why, Baby, Why and White Lightning were early successes; later work ranged from She Thinks I Still Care to the ballads produced by Billy Sherrill. Jones also recorded an enduring series of duets with Tammy Wynette. His phrasing and emotional delivery helped connect later country audiences with the music's rural traditions.
