About Del Shannon
Del Shannon grew up in Michigan as Charles Westover, listening to country singers such as Hank Williams and Lefty Frizzell alongside the Ink Spots. He learned ukulele and guitar, then gained performing experience in an Army band and in Battle Creek clubs. His work at the Hi-Lo Club developed from rhythm guitar into singing, songwriting and band leadership. Those experiences brought together country influences, an interest in vocal sound and the practical demands of leading a working rock and roll band.
