About Modern English
Modern English emerged from Colchester, England, and recorded for 4AD during the development of British post-punk. The group's sound brought together Robbie Grey's vocals, guitars, bass and distinctive keyboard textures. Mesh & Lace appeared in 1981, followed by After the Snow with producer Hugh Jones in 1982. I Melt with You reached a broader audience, while later albums including Ricochet Days and 1 2 3 4 continued the catalog's balance of atmosphere and melody.
