Release evidence and recording details

First released: 1973 (year verified)

The official band history and original Wild and Peaceful program establish the studio recording in 1973. The original program carries an inherited Single Version label on its approximately 4:40 presentation; no claim is made that a later shorter single edit was already available in 1973. The retained 1974 appearance does not redate the original recording.

Annual version match under review

The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.

The selected original studio album presentation differs in length from the separately retrieved shorter licensed anthology presentation. The actual retained annual row does not identify its edition. Its real candidate is kept provisionally and excluded from Beyond until that version question is resolved.

ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Kool & the Gang

Kool & the Gang developed from a Jersey City ensemble formed around brothers Robert and Ronald Bell and their neighborhood friends. The group combined jazz instrumentation with soul and funk, using tightly arranged horns and an active rhythm section. Its early records foregrounded instrumental patterns and group vocals. The arrival of singer James J.T. Taylor and work with producer Eumir Deodato brought a smoother vocal emphasis in 1979, while preserving the rhythmic foundation behind the band's dance records.
