Court and Spark - label original single chronology
Rhino explicitly dates the Raised on Robbery single to December 1973 before the January 1974 album, then identifies Help Me and Free Man in Paris as subsequent singles. Album-day precision is not transferred to those singles; the artist-hosted discography identifies Court and Spark as the original Raised on Robbery B-side. | Reviewed 2026-10-18
About Joni Mitchell
Joni Mitchell began performing in Canadian coffeehouses and nightclubs before releasing Song to a Seagull on Reprise in 1968. Her music drew on folk, jazz, classical music and rock while developing distinctive guitar tunings and flexible song structures. She also worked across arrangements, production and album artwork. Blue, Court and Spark and Hejira show different relationships between the solo voice and an ensemble. Later records continued that exploration, while her archival releases make earlier studio work and live performances available as separate parts of the catalog.
