About The Impressions
The Impressions joined gospel-influenced vocal harmony with Chicago soul and melodic pop. After early work with Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Fred Cash and Sam Gooden developed the group's enduring trio sound. Mayfield's songwriting and production connected intimate songs with messages of dignity and collective progress. Keep On Pushing, People Get Ready and We're a Winner became prominent examples, alongside the romantic appeal of It's All Right and Gypsy Woman. Their arrangements made harmony and purposeful songwriting equally central.
