Annual version match under review

The selected recording has release evidence, but its version has not been matched to the retained annual entry. It is omitted from Beyond the yearly lists until this match is resolved.

The actual retained annotation calls this the lead single from Face Dances. The selection specifies the full original album edition, and the reviewed official catalog distinguishes album-version labeling from the original single entry. The annual row provides no edition detail, so its actual candidate remains provisional and excluded from Beyond.

ARTIST BACKGROUND

About The Who

The Who moved between concise singles and larger connected album works. Tommy appeared in 1969, while Pete Townshend's Lifehouse project provided the starting point for Who's Next in 1971. The double album Quadrophenia followed in 1973. After Keith Moon's death, the group recorded Face Dances with Kenney Jones on drums. Roger Daltrey and Townshend continued the studio catalog with later musicians, including on WHO in 2019. The official discography distinguishes those group recordings from demos, member solo work and later concert versions.
