About Kenny Rogers
Kenny Rogers was a Houston-born singer whose husky voice connected country storytelling with pop ballads. Before his solo country career, he sang in vocal groups, played jazz bass and performed with the New Christy Minstrels and the First Edition. Lucille and The Gambler helped establish his later repertoire, followed by songs such as Lady. Duets with Dottie West, Kim Carnes and Dolly Parton formed another important part of his catalog, alongside television appearances and films built around The Gambler.
